Workshops and Learning Opportunities:

Andrea Lovett, co-founder, massmouth "How to Tell a Kick Butt 5 Minute Story" with Andrea Lovett  Come and enjoy a fun and thoughtful two-hour workshop to cultivate a story based on personal experience into a performance. This workshop is a great introduction for beginner storytellers into the art-from of storytelling. In this workshop you will begin to learn how storytelling differs from theater, stand up, or twisting balloon animals. With the instruction and coaching of massmouth professional storytellers you will explore the art of story telling through guided sense memory, writing, performance, individual and group exercises. Workshops are followed by an open mic opportunity.  Taught by professional storyteller Andrea Lovett; co-founder of massmouth professional storyteller, performance coach, and story lover.  Limited to 16 and minimum of 6 to run. Please arrive by 6:15 to sign in workshop begins at 6:30 pm. $40 online and $50/$55 at the door.

"Once Upon a Preschool: Storytelling for Daycare Providers and Preschool Teachers" with Andrea  Lovett You've watched, listened and clapped along with the storytellers. You've seen children joining in, making the story come alive. You've wondered how you could make story magic work. Here is a workshop for you! Many early childhood teachers already have a natural ability to tell stories. In our workshop beginning and experienced teachers alike will take the next steps to learn the physicality of storytelling and all the elements that make a story work in performance.
Workshop participants will learn how to add audience participation and activities to their tales while paying attention to the natural rhythm of each story. Our preschool storyteller workshop will focus on folktales. You will also learn simple songs, movements and other activities to enhance the stories you chose. Leave ready to use your new skills in your classroom the very next day. You will know:
1) Where and how to find stories you love and that also work in performance
2) How to take your story from the written page to the preschool 'stage'
3) Two or more stories ready to tell
4) Songs, rhymes and fillers to use as preliteracy tools in the classroom
5) Resources & handouts with storytelling tips
