StorySpace Update for August 7, 2012
by Yana ShermanThis past week at StorySpace, the Open Mic was amazing. A pair of tellers created a tandem piece in which one person narrated a story while another person acted out the story in mime. The effect was a stunning blend of word and movement. In another Open Mic, a newcomer brought down the house with a comic take on stealing pizza while waiting to perform at a comedy club. The feature, Harry Mishkin, took us on a retro tour of culture and his personal journey through the '60s and '70s. Good old sex, drugs and rock and roll!
This coming week, Rivka Willick will be featured. A storyteller and story coach from New Jersey, Rivka will be telling, "My mother is a Standard Poodle from Outer Space" and other tales -- so get ready for some Sci-Fi/ Fantasy fun!
The evening will begin with an Open Mic at 7 p.m., in which tellers get eight minutes to try new material or share an old favorite. First-time tellers are guaranteed a spot and listeners are always welcome.
The venue is handy to Central Square, cozy and very conducive to creative vibes. There are still two kittens who frolic -- to everyone's delight. A $5 donation is suggested. This allows us to continue the tradition of Tuesday night storytelling into its third decade.
