We have an office!

From Nicolette Heavey our new Managing Director:

massmouth is no longer, "this story slam thing going on in Boston."  Not only have the slam venues increased; not only has a high school curriculum-based program begun being implemented; not only are grant dollars coming in in the thousands; but WE HAVE OFFICE SPACE!   This truly legitimizes massmouth's intent. More importantly, the office give us an energy boost, a boost to get more people involved from interns to organizers, to interact with other organizations, t0 create and implement more programs, and get more funding.  As one of my all time favorite guys, Ben Franklin, said, "Words may show a [wo]man's wit, but action his[her] meaning."
Some back story from Norah:

massmouth has been looking for a space for months. But we had no
money. So we searched for free space. Landlords and real estate agents did not
call us back. Go figure. We tried schools, universities and other nonprofits. We
did everything we could think of. Then, Haymarket Peoples Fund. A
friend said they had space, it was small. And I should call soon, the
spaces filled fast. First, we needed to show we had the $$$. But we
didn't, really. I had an idea and sure enough, an anonymous donor
promised us 6 months rent - the check is, 'how-you-say', in the mail.

I called Haymarket back - they were so nice and responsive. They let
me come in to see the space the very next next morning. Then after
jumping thru a few really time consuming documentation 'hoops' ? We
were in! But a snow storm and a computer glitch meant we had to wait a
day. Yesterday we worked like mad women to get in and set up - sort of. As soon as we get settled we hope to also have interns and office hours! A phone and internet service is on order. We are in the basement of 42 Seaverns Avenue, in Jamaica Plain - on the Orange Line or the 39 bus from Copley Square.

And look for a move in party soon!

Office space! It was music to our massmouth ears when  Norah Dooley
announced she had found massmouth office space. It has been a
massmouth mantra for the fall and winter season. "We need office
space" To finally bring this wish to fruition is a dream come true.
Isn't  there  a saying ' be careful what you wish for ? We here at
massmouth have a wish list  and this is just the beginning. We are
most grateful for the opportunity to move our office space from a
certain bedroom in Brookline to an honest to goodness office in
Jamaica Plain. Drop by and we'll tell you the rest of our story!
