Inspired by her Facebook posts about her work as a performer with homeless youth, at risk youth etc etc. I asked Lorna Czarnota if she had any links to her writing that she could share with us.
She sent me a link to her blog: http://storylornamac.blogspot.com/2009/08/storytelling-with-special-needs.html where she writes about the challenges of a performer in this setting. She also posts at Crossroads Story Center, Incorporated: Come Out to Play, Why we need to leave our comfort zones and how story can help us. http://tinyurl.com/ls98kt or paste this in your browser: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=75018048172&topic=9500
Wondering if the performers at massmouth might want to do this kind of work as community service? Of course one should be paid for this kind of performance. Yet, I am so inspired by her postings and Baba the Storyteller's work as well that I want to do this work - paid or not.
A quote from Lorna's Crossroads post:
" ...What story does for us ... is helps us view the world outside our bubbles, to see beyond the veil that which is possible for us. Story becomes a testing zone to help eliminate our fear. Story is a playground, sometimes dark but always safe. So next time someone offers a story, leave your comfort zone and come out to play. It will be the beginning of a whole new you. " Lorna Czarnota

mouthoff at the Aquarium FRI AUG 28th
The idea of stories on a theme has been a loose discipline - more for variety and inspiration. Stories of the sea and seafaring folk is our theme BUT - a personal story that is well told on any subject is also fine. Stories should be tight and rehearsed - unless you are a very confident improviser. This is not a place to find your story but to share it. Our mission is to entice audience to our art form.
We will meet in front of the New England Aquarium www.neaq.org . Come a bit early if you like and you can help to scope out a place that works for performance and set up equipment. Meet back at Toscis for ice cream ?
